Recently, you may be aware that the blog theme has changed more into 'positive health news' , with little of my own comments added at the bottom of the articles. It has been a long time since I did a post just from what I feel according to current trends or passing comments. Well, if you missed them, here's a rare treat.
The actual idea of yo-yo dieting really means someone who can't stick to any diet. They will eat something like a high protein diet for about 2 or maybe 3 weeks then go back to whatever they were doing before. Then they might go onto another 'popular' diet for another few weeks before slipping back into bad habits again until the next 'new' diet comes along, and so on.
As many of you may know, I follow what's been called an alternate day diet. I fast for 24 hours out of every 48 (roughly). I have been doing this for over a year now and have managed to live quite healthily on it. In fact almost every month there is new evidence to show the this kind of diet could be one of the best for optimum health. It's amasing though, how many people accuse me or others following similar diets as yo-yo dieters.
As long as it is a long-term choice and has been shown to improve your quality of life over time then I seriously doubt it could be labelled as a yo-yo diet. Whether it is a regular water fast, juice fast, apple fast, soup fast or any other credible cleansing system that makes you more healthy, if you do it once every 6 months or even one day a month or a week or whatever is good for you; as long as there is consistency to it, there is a structure and method which shouldn't be labelled with erratic terms.
In summary, I would like to say, my current opinion is that as long as you are consistent with your approaches, and only disregard those diets you know cause you problems, try not to worry about what other people say to you about your eating habits. Remember in the 'developed' world we are almost at over 50% obesity levels, which could mean that eating healthy is not 'normal' behaviour (normal being the majority opinion).
Stay Healthy!
