One of the most common cosmetic body fears amongst women could be a thing of the past. Stony Brook University in the American state of New York may have found a cure for cellulite.
The researchers at Stony Brook University have recently patented a medicine called XIAFLEX®. For the past 2 years it has been used as non-surgical treatment in cases of Dupuytren’s disease. Since this time the researchers have been adding more possible uses including, Peyronie’s disease, penis deformity and frozen shoulder.
The latest tests will be to ascertain if using the drug to combat cellulite will work. Professor Marie A. Badalmente, one of the chief researchers and one of the most widely recognised experts in her field said " For cellulite
treatment, the drug is in a phase 1a trial being conducted by Auxilium
for its potential use to break down the collagen “honeycomb” or
scaffold-like structure of cellulite in order to smooth out the skin."
The belief by some that cellulite is a disorder has been questioned by many experts, and was originally promoted as unsightly by the cosmetic industry. This hasn't seemed to help some women being negatively self-conscious of it. At the time of writing, Dr. Michael F. McGuire, a clinical associate professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, confirmed “realistically, there is no cure for cellulite.”
Cellulite has, however, appeared to improve with changes in diet, exercise and stress levels. It is hoped that the research at Stony Brook University might give the Medical Profession the proof they need. In the meantime, if you worry about cellulite you can always contact a good fitness professional who can advise you how you can reduce the appearance of cellulite.
