Great news for rice eaters, experts have said eating white or brown rice can help to improve the diet, manage weight and other areas of risk factors for disease.
More than 8000 adult's and children's diets were compared at Tufts University Friedman School of Nutrition during a recent research study. The health parameters for those who did and those who did not eat rice regularly were checked for the risk of obesity, cholesterol levels and general diet quality. The results show that those who did eat rice
consume significantly more folate, iron, potassium, vitamins B6, B12 and
A, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin D, phosphorus, magnesium,
copper and zinc than those who did not eat rice.
Rice eaters also consumed a lower percentage of calories from fat and
saturated fat compared to those who did not eat rice. In addition,
adults who eat rice are less likely to be overweight or obese and have a
smaller waist circumference. This could be due to the fibre content of the rice and the fact that it leaves the consumer feeling fuller for longer. Original Item here.
Yes, the research was funded by the Rice Foundation, but it does make sense that eating rice as oppose to chips would be better for you, and there's a load less calories than a pizza. I am also not sure that popping into the local Chinese for a Special Fried every day would help, but who knows?
