Chocolate Heaven

According to many worldwide reports over the last couple of days the lifespan of chocolate could be in jeopardy. Supply of Cacao, the raw material used in chocolate, seems to be becoming less.  A majority of the farmers are struggling to maintain even current production levels as the growing areas are amongst some of the most unstable and undeveloped parts of the world.

Now with huge demand coming in from newly affluent economies such as China some experts predict an increase to 125% of current production is needed in the next 8 years.  The most likely event will be that chocolate prices will rise (think supply and demand). Item can be searched on the web or click here.

That could be good news for those of you who are looking for a way to leave those sweet treats behind.  In today's climate, it is not unheard of for some people to even eat one whole bar of chocolate a day.  It wasn't that long ago it was only ever used as an occasional treat (before the 'Mars a day' adverts helped to convince people otherwise).  If you are looking to lose weight maybe now is the time to take stock of those 'little' treats.

For example (I'll use a 62.5g 'Mars bar' seeing as we have mentioned it already).  If you eat 4 bars a week you consume an extra 1122 Kcals, over a month that's 4488 Kcals, about 2 whole days worth of calories for active people. So Imagine how much more it would be if you ate one every day.

If you have trouble with giving yourself too many treats (we all have 'because I'm worth it days', but doing it on a daily basis?) try to set a day, maybe a Saturday or a Sunday, or even better only the first one or the last one in the month.  You don't have to completely abstain, but you may find you enjoy it more if you hold off a little (relax don't do it).  Your body may thank you for it.

Stay Healthy!

I think the inexpensive nature of many of our sweets and "junk" foods have a negative effect on us physically and emotionally, and yet I'm a total chocoholic and cringe at this news, even if I know it's in my own best interest :D
