Roasted Barley.

Just thought I would share with you something else a little bit off the beaten track but extremely good for you.

Eating roasted barley as a daily activity for aiding in weight loss.
There is loads of information out on the internet saying about how healthy the grain is if you put into soups and stews, or breakfast cereals, etc., but not so much on just eating it on its own from the husk.

As we all know eating processed food is pretty bad for us.  The refining process takes out lots of goodness from the food we eat, plus the storage time means some of the nutrients start to deteriorate at quite an alarming rate.  There is a way around it, that is to refine your own products as much as possible.  Buying a flour mill and baking your own soda bread for instance is a great idea.  You don't need to eat as much of it either as you will benefit from more nutrients in the food.  Your teeth will also get a better workout!

There is also another option for those interested in eating the barley for its benefits but not wanting to make bread from it.  Roasting the barley grains then eating the roasted barley using your teeth as a mill.
By grinding your own grain IN YOUR MOUTH, you will be able to benefit from even more nutrients.
It has the consistency of soft uncooked popcorn, but if you roast it enough it will be soft enough for eating.  It can also have a great nutty flavour to it.
Beware if you are a lazy eater though, it will not work.  You need to properly chew the grain.  This also causes greater secretion of digestive juices and also burns more calories in the actual eating of it (a little like celery is reported to do).

Other great things about eating barley is it can have less acidic effect on the body than oats; it can help the body flush out bad cholesterol; can help prevent gall stones; can help to keep you feeling full for longer; can supply Bvitamins (when eaten as a grain); gives you fibre; can help prevent diabetes...and more.

Try some if you dare, you will feel better for it.

Stay Healthy!
