Latest research shows that the United Kingdom is leading Europe in obesity amongst women. The statistics were taken, by Eurostat, of 19 member states of the EU. Women aged 16 - 44 from the UK were most clinically obese in europe and men were only second to the state of Malta. The actual paper can be viewed from here (or I can send you a copy if you mail me).
The paper goes on to state that in the European Union we are now at more than half the population being overweight. The result of this is already being seen in increases of diabetes, cancers, hypertension, heart disease and psychological problems all associated with obesity. It goes on to state that maintaining normal bodyweight can be challenging given the high calorie foods, lack of suitable exercise and alcohol consumption.
The UK Population needs to face reality, I think it is time we took personal responsibility for these figures. Instead of blaming statistics or circumstances, why don't we try to reverse these figures (the statistical ones and our bodies). Don't blame those around you or alienate anyone, but just be responsible for your own health. As a personal trainer, I would love to not have to work because everyone is so fit and healthy that they have no need for a trainer.
