Welsh Rugby team take up Yoga in a bid to win World Cup.
Hot on the heels of our North Atlantic wrestling cousins swapping Full Nelsons for hand mudras we have the Welsh Rugby team now regularly sweating it out in Warrior poses.
The move was the brainchild of the Welsh Rugby Union's Aussie conditioning chief Adam Beard, who says the players have gone for the idea in a big way and have seen really positive results.
Beard said, "The boys are training really hard and they tend to get tight, so we have to make sure they are flexible. So we thought we’d introduce yoga.". He went on to say, "It’s always good to have a little bit more flexibility. There’s that stigma of gym monkeys surrounding rugby players, but rugby has got so many different elements... they have to stretch, they get hit in awkward positions, they have to run and they have to have certain mobility to hit positions in running."
No stranger to more innovative training ideas, Mr. Beard has also planned on inducting his boys into a training camp in Poland where they will be improving their overall fitness and more specifically their running and overall strength conditioning.
