If music be the food of love

NEWS NEWS NEWS NEWS NEWS

More great healing news, this time from the world of music.

Originally set up as the Music Therapy Trust in South Delhi by Margaret Lobo back in 2005; the Trust uses music as a means to psychologically heal their clients. Her majority of successful cases have involved children with ADHD, confidence issues and adults who may be suffering from depression.

The Trust also conducts complementary therapy to those suffering from stage 5 Cancer and HIV, although they make no guarantees to be able to 'cure' the disease, there have been positive results.

Somesh Purey, spokesperson for the Trust said that at present there are no prescribed rules as to what will work for what person. This would indicate the individual nature of this kind of therapy.
The client may take 8-10 sessions of being assessed before the right therapy is found.

The Music Therapy Trust associates with NGOs working for slum kids, schools, and corporates, besides providing a part-time two-year diploma course in clinical music therapy. Dr. Lucanne Magill, a qualified music therapist from the US, is the course tutor.
When asked what are the qualities required in a good music therapist, Dr. Magill said, “Compassion, desire and love to work with people, some life experiences that help them to be able to adapt in challenging situations, ability to listen and has to be musically trained.”
