HAPPY NEW YEAR!
ok, so this is probably the time when we get the most amount of people suddenly writing fitness goals. All the excess of the festive period kind of makes us want to be the most healthy person on the planet.
....That is until about the 14th January. The problem is that living our lives in such extremes isn't good for us. We want to be healthy but at the same time we want to enjoy life and be happy. So, as I tell all my clients, try to moderate everything. Food, drink, exercise, work, play and pretty much all the things in your life. You will find you will enjoy it so much more. You will also be able to do more with your life and ultimately enjoy it more.
I have been at the extremes of life also, martial arts training for over 8 hours a day while trying to hold down a job. I have also spent a year as a monk in seclusion on an island. So from my experience I can say moderation of things is good for me. Most of the people I know complain and say they feel miserable when they are doing the same thing too much. How often have you heard someone say "...All I do is work, work, work...." or "...I have had so much time off from work I am bored..." (normally the same person saying both) maybe you heard someone say "...I have definately eaten too much today, my stomach hurts...." or "...I am so hungry my stomach hurts" (not always the same person).
All I am saying is this January when your resolutions (goals) start to play out, don't be too harsh on yourself. Exercise 3 - 5 times a week for around 30 minutes or more; eat normal healthy balanced meals containing protein, fats AND carbs; have a few glasses of wine a week with friends/family or tea if you don't drink. Remember to rest also, if you enjoy what you do you will stick at it more. This year we CAN make it a life changing habit and be lighter on ourselves.
