Most people who train do it for a specific reason. This could be at any time a different reason, but there is normally a reason. It is important to keep focused on what it is that you actually want to be able to have or do. Strength does not necessarily mean big muscles. What some people call 'tone' does not really mean you have a great cardiovascular ability. A large degree of proprioception and flexibility does not equate to looking like an athlete sculpted from stone.
We need all of this and more though to be able to safely live a functional life. If we drive too heavily into one direction, we lose balance. Fitness and health as KaiZen see it is a balance. A balance of looking good, feeling good, having great functional abilities beyond those of the normal person and then going beyond those fitness abilities to become even better still. The most important thing about it though is balance. You can certainly aim for more of one than another, but you still need to keep the scales from tipping. The good news is that the more you work in all areas of fitness, the more you become better in all areas of fitness.
At first it might seem hard, but it gets easier. Then there will be times that you will really wonder if you are still making much progress, or if the pain will ever end; these are the times to keep pushing onwards. Set new goals if you need to, change your programme to include other aspects of fitness you may be ignoring slightly.
Try not to become a slave to your goals though and be willing to re-evaluate your goals constantly. Know yourself, and how you train. Reward yourself from time to time when you feel you have really pushed hard. Vow to try harder next time if you were not all there for a session. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither were their gladiators or centurions.
Have patience with yourself and ask your trainer for advice or do your own research when you feel you are struggling. You will find over time that doing what you need to do can lead you to what you wanted in the first place.
Keep training hard guys!
